West Division (NHL)

The Western Division of the Eastern Division was next to one of two divisions in the North American professional hockey league NHL.

With the expansion of the league in 1967 and the subsequent new formation of leagues system was decided that the NHL should be divided into two divisions. After a further increase in 1974, the League Two divisions system was abolished and the Campbell and the Prince of Wales Conference two Conferences each with two sub- divisions.

The name of the division was derived from the geographical position of the teams that played in it, ie, in the Western Division played the teams that were native to western North America.
