William Lindsay (Kentucky politician)

William Lindsay ( born September 4, 1835 in Lexington, Virginia; † October 15, 1909 in Frankfort, Kentucky ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party. From 1893 to 1901 he was a senator for the state of Kentucky.

Life

Lindsay visited Lexington in the school and moved in 1854 to Clinton, Kentucky. There he studied law and worked part-time as a teacher. In 1858 he was admitted by the Bar Association and practiced henceforth in his profession. During the Civil War, Lindsay served from July 1861 to May 1865 as a soldier in the Confederate Army. He then continued his legal profession.

Policy

Lindsay was in 1867 elected to the State Senate of Kentucky, where he remained until 1870. He then worked from 1970 to 1978 in the capital of Kentucky, Frankfort, as a judge, to then stay in the city and get back to work as a lawyer. In 1889 he was again elected to the State Senate, this time until 1893. Afterwards he worked at the 1893 World's Fair, which was held in Chicago, Illinois. Following the resignation of Senator John Griffin Carlisle, he was elected to succeed him. Including a re-election, he served a total of 15 February 1893 to 3 March 1901. He remained still in Frankfort, where he died 1909.
