WÅ‚odzimierz Cimoszewicz

Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz (debate? / I ) (* September 13, 1950 in Warsaw) is a Polish politician, lawyer and former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland.

Cimoszevicz was Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General (26 October 1993 and 1 March 1995), Vice- Marshal of the Sejm (March 3, 1995 to February 7, 1996 ), Prime Minister (7 February 1996 to 31 October 1997), Chairman of the Committee for European Integration (15 October 1996 to 31 October 1997), Minister of Foreign Affairs (October 19, 2001 to January 4, 2005 ), and Marshal of the Sejm (January 5, 2005 to October 18, 2005 ). From 1989 to 2005 he was a deputy in the Sejm and the addition since 2007 Member of the Senate.

He was awarded the Order of Merit of France and Greece.

Training

Cimoszevicz is a graduate of the XIX. General- Lyceum in Warsaw and the Faculty of Law and Administration of Warsaw University (1972). In 1978 he earned the title of Dr. jur. and specialized in international law. In the years 1972-1985 he worked first as an assistant and then as an adjunct at the Institute of International Law at the University of Warsaw. From 1980 to 1981 he was a fellow of the Fulbright Program at Columbia University in New York. He was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of two American universities.

Political activities in the People's Republic of

Cimoszevicz began his political career in the People's Republic as a functionary in various youth organizations. He was from 1968 to 1973 a member of the Socialist Youth Association ( Związek Młodzieży Socjalistycznej ) and its chairman at the University of Warsaw, he was elected in 1972 in the Polish Students' Association, among others over the years. From 1971 until its dissolution in January 1990 he was a member of the Polish United Workers' Party ( Polska Zjednoczona partia Robotnicza, PZPR ). During his work at the university he was secretary of the Higher Education Commission of the party. In 1985 he retired from politics and moved to Kalinówka Kościelna in today Podlaskie province, where he took care of the farm of his parents.

He returned to the changes that had triggered the round table, to politics and became in the years 1989 and 1990, Member of Parliament for the PZPR in the Sejm.

Political activity in the Third Republic

In 1990 he stood as a candidate in the presidential election, reaching 9.21% of valid votes cast in fourth place. 1991 to 1993 he was chairman of the election committee SLD.

1995 to 1997 he led a social-democratic government as prime minister. From 2001 to 2005 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of Leszek Miller and Marek Belka. On January 5, 2005, he was President of the Parliament by the Sejm ( Marshal of the Sejm ) elected. He thus replaced from Józef Oleksy. His successor as foreign minister was his former deputy Adam Daniel Rotfeld.

Cimoszevicz was the SLD candidate in the state presidential elections on 9 October 2005 and was in accordance with the opinion polls from time to time as the most promising candidate for the highest office of the State. However, the negative campaign in the mass media, which was based on allegations of fraud on the part of his former assistant Anna Jarucka caused a collapse in the polls. Then Cimoszevicz withdrew his candidacy on September 14 in this connection back. The documents that should weigh Cimoszevicz have, however, proved to be faked using a copier, it was an alleged signature Cimoszewicz a facsimile. Jarucka was convicted in May 2010 of perjury, suppression of documents and forgery to one and a half years ' imprisonment.

In the parliamentary elections on 21 October 2007, he was chosen as one of three representatives of the constituency Białystok and as the only Independent next 60 PO and PiS 39 senators in the Senate. In the 2011 elections, he successfully defended his mandate.
