Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located on the northwestern edge of the forest Altdorfer around ten kilometers northwest of the " county seat " Ravensburg. The district is located in the Mochenwangen Schussental, the district Wolpertswende on a hill, from which one overlooks the Schussental.

Adjacent communities are from the north Aulendorf, Bad Waldsee, Baindt, Fronreute and Altshausen (all district Ravensburg ).

The community Wolpertswende is next to the eponymous place Wolpertswende of the districts Niederweiler, sailing Bach, Vorsee, Haller, Bruggen, moss honor, Stroppel, Meßhausen, Prussia Häusle, brick hut, Hatzenturm, Steinhausen and Mochenwangen.

History

In today's municipality Stone Age settlements on Schreckensee are detected. As Illmensee and on Federseemuseum objects of the so-called Pfyn- Altheimer group were found, representing at the Iller a spatial link between the Pfyn Culture ( Switzerland / Bodensee ) and the Altheimer culture.

The district sailing Bach was 809, Wolpertswende itself was first mentioned in 934, when the Holy Konrad, then Bishop of Constance, various possessions exchanged with his brother. By 1200, the area went to the Lords of Fronhofen. They sold Wolpertswende in the second half of the 14th century to the Ravensburger Heilig-Geist -Spital. With the city of Ravensburg, the area around Wolpertswende and Mochenwangen 1810 came to the new Kingdom of Württemberg.

Religions

Wolpertswende is dominated Roman Catholic as the surrounding countryside. The community is home to the parish of St. Gangolf in Wolpertswende and the parish of the Nativity of Mary in Mochenwangen, both of which belong to the deanery Ravensburg.

The 1973 became independent evangelical church Mochenwangen covers the area of political communities Wolpertswende and Fronreute. It belongs to the deanery Ravensburg and has 613 church members in Wolpertswende and 625 church members in Fronreute ( as of 2004).

The " chapel " was established in 1930 by Wolpert turner council as the heraldic figure. It represents the located slightly below the local baroque chapel Gangolf represents the colors were set in 1935. Cultural Opportunities

The Cultural Advisory Council " Old Church " organizes exhibitions, concerts, readings and theater performances for children in the Early Church in Mochenwangen.

The music clubs Wolpertswende and Mochenwangen play in secular and sacred events in the community and the environment.

Similarly, the marching band " Kakadu " musically active and plays are held yearly.

Sports

The sports club SV Mochenwangen eV was founded in 1920. From 1996 until relegation in 2000, the football team of the club played in the then fifth- highest German league, the Association League Württemberg; currently (2013 ) plays in the district league Bodensee.

The tennis club TC Mochenwangen eV has around 260 members and operates a club house in Mochenwangen.

The sports club SV Wolpertswende 1956 offers gymnastics, soccer and volleyball. The football team plays in the District League B (as of 2013).

Economy and infrastructure

Economy

In Mochenwangen the paper mill Mochenwangen paper founded in 1868, is a resident. In the late 20th century, the factory was part of the Finnish group Myllykoski Corporation, since 2002 it belongs to the Golzern Holding GmbH. The factory has 190 employees and produces about 110,000 tonnes of paper per year. She delivered the paper for a few volumes of the book series "Harry Potter".

Education

The municipality is the Eugen- Bolz - carrier School in Mochenwangen, a primary and secondary school with Werkrealschule, with branch office in Wolpertswende. The school has about 200 students (as of school year 2010 /2011). It is named after the Württemberg State President and resistance fighters Eugen Bolz.

Traffic

Mochenwangen is with an exit ( Baindt / Mochenwangen ) to a four-lane section of national road 30 (Friedrichshafen - Ulm) connected. The national road 284 leads Mochenwangen by the Mochenwanger forest to Aulendorf. The districts are connected with each other and with neighboring communities through county roads.

Mochenwangen is located on the southern railway Ulm - Friedrichshafen - Lindau. The section from Ravensburg to Biberach was already inaugurated on 26 May 1849. The Mochenwangen station was closed at the end of the summer schedule May 28, 1989.

With the expansion of Bodensee-Oberschwaben-Bahn/BOB (Friedrichshafen - Ravensburg ) by 1 June 1997 to Aulendorf a new breakpoint was opened near the historic station building.

A bus belonging to the tariff zone of Lake Constance - Upper Swabia Transport Association ( bodo ), connects the municipality with Ravensburg.
