World Wide Live is after the publication of the 1978 Tokyo Tapes released the second live album by German hard rock band Scorpions, which was released in mid-1985. The images were taken during the Love at First Sting Tour 1984 /1985. It is among the most popular live albums in rock music, it has long been the second- best-selling by Peter Frampton Comes Alive live album worldwide and is one of the most commercially successful releases of the band.

Background

World Wide Live emerged as the second live album by the group during the Love at First Sting tour, which began on January 23, 1984, came to an end on 5 September 1986. The recordings for the records published on the album are from the following concerts:

  • Bercy, Paris, France (February 29, 1984)
  • The Forum, Los Angeles, CA, United States ( 24 and 25 April 1984)
  • Sports Arena, San Diego, CA, USA (26 April 1984)
  • Pacific Amphitheatre, Costa Mesa, CA, USA (28 April 1984)
  • Gymnasium, Cologne, West Germany (17 November 1984)

During the first live album by the group was taken at a venue on different days, so here recordings from various concerts are thus collected. The cover was designed by Franz Epping. The first release on CD was released despite insufficient space without the Title Another Peace of Meat, Six String Sting and the two Can not Get Enough parts. Only the digitally remastered re-release, which was published in 2001, contains the entire album on CD. Originally published album was released as a double LP.

Selection

This live album contains exclusively of material from albums that were released after the previous live album. This therefore affects songs from the albums Love Drive (1979) Animal Magnetism (1980 ) Blackout ( 1982) and Love at First Sting (1984). Duplication of songs of other live albums, as it is otherwise the case with similar live releases, so do not occur here. Rather, World Wide Live is a summary of these four albums and is proud to introduce the new guitarist Matthias Jabs with his live prowess, played in its place in Tokyo Tapes still Uli Jon Roth.

The album received mostly positive reviews in the international press. Chart positions and awards

In Germany the album reached number four and stayed 10 weeks in the Top 10 of the charts. In Austria, the album also was number 4 in Switzerland and in the UK it reached number 18 respectively, while it was also placed in France at number 20 in Sweden and number 9. In the U.S., the panel managed to No. 17, with which it reached double platinum status. Furthermore, the album was certified platinum in Canada and in Germany with gold.
