Yelena Slesarenko

Yelena Vladimirovna Slessarenko (Russian: Елена Владимировна Слесаренко, English transcription Yelena Slesarenko, born Siwuschenko, . Born February 28, 1982 in Volgograd) is a Russian high jumper and Olympic gold medalist.

Life

In 2003, she won the bronze medal at the Universiade, and in 2004 her breakthrough came in the top. At the World Indoor Championships in Budapest, she won the title with a height of 2.04 m. During the Golden League meetings before the Olympic Games in Athens, she became the chief rival of Hestrie Cloete (RSA ), which had become 2003 World Champion. At the meeting still beaten by Cloete in Rome, she could then overtake the favorite in Athens Cloete final this season and was an Olympic record and personal best of 2.06 m Olympic champion. Only when the world record height of 2.10 m, which she let herself hang, it was over.

The following year she had to stop because of injuries. At the World Indoor Championships in Moscow, she defended her title with 2.02 meters, arrived at the European Championships in 2006 in a class final with 1.99 m only to fifth place.

At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, she finished fourth, and at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia in 2008, she won silver. In 2011 she was ranked fourth in the world championships.
