Zamboanga Sibugay

Zamboanga Sibugay is a province in the southeast of Zamboanga Peninsula (Region IX) on the Philippine island of Mindanao. The provincial capital is Ipil.

Geography

Limited is the province in the north of the province of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur to the east of and in the southwest by the expanded city of Zamboanga City. In the south, the coast of the Bay of Sibuguey, a section of the Gulf of Moro extends.

Demography and language

Economy

Main crops are next to rice, corn and coconut and rubber, fruits, different indigenous vegetables, tobacco, coffee, cocoa and tuber crops. A significant educational institution is the Mindanao State University.

History

The territory of Zamboanga Sibugay was originally part of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur. Approaches a spin-off, there were already well ahead of 1960. Various applications have been submitted for this in Congress, but remained unprocessed.

However a study in May 1997 referendum demonstrated the will of the people to set up a separate province. The Republic Act No. 8973, the spin-off on 22 February 2001 was finally implemented.
