Buhl (Bas-Rhin)

Buhl is a linear village and a commune with 518 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. She is a member of the Local Government Association Communauté de communes de la plaine de la Sauer et du Seltzbach.

Buhl is surrounded by the municipalities Stundwiller, Trimbach, Crœttwiller, Niederrœdern and Hatten.

History

The name comes from " Bühel " - which means a hill, because in addition to the village border foothills of the Vosges. Multiple changed the spelling: So the place is 991 as " Bühelen " before. Later this became " Bühel ", " Bihel " and then " Biel ". These spellings are on a panel on Calvary on the road that connects Buhl with Trimbach listed. Comes also the first known mention of the village from the year 991 - in connection with the construction of the monastery of Seltz. According to one chronicler Buhl was in the 14th century, a village around a fort on the hill of the Lord vines. He was, however, no sources.

The village was inhabited by the family Fleckenstein, one of the most powerful families in Alsace. The last Barons of Fleckenstein were Jacques and Christian Friedrich Wolfgang Fleckenstein. In the Protestant church are their grave plates. The Fleckenstein owned in Buhl a castle, which was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. After the war, a castle near Niederrœdern was created.
