Steinseltz

Steinseltz is a commune of 625 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It is located in on the edge of the Natural Park of the Northern Vosges.

Economy

The agriculture focuses mainly on viticulture and the cultivation of apples.

History

The settlement was founded in the 8th century by the monk Scrooge from the Abbey of White Castle. The salt roads leading from Austria to the Netherlands and from Wissembourg to Saverne, both passed the village. Today's local name was thus derived from " rock salt " and by the then salt mines.
