Climbach

Climbach ( originally German Klimbach ) is a municipality with 507 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the canton of Wissembourg in the Bas -Rhin in Alsace region of France. It is part of the Natural Park of the North Vosges.

Geography

Climbach lies west of the town of White Castle, behind the hill Col du Pigeonnier, on the edge of the Upper Mundatwaldes and east of Lembacher forest.

Culture and sights

Climbach, with its flowers and the well-kept houses the pleasant image of a unterelsässischen resort.

In the forest of Climbach the remains of a chapel, which was built on the site of a pagan place of worship around the end of the 12th century by a hermit find. A century later, the wooden construction of the Cistercians was replaced by a sandstone church after the place had become a place of pilgrimage. Presumably, during the Thirty Years War, the chapel was destroyed. Some walls from the 14th century and especially a pointed arch are preserved. On a ship with dimensions of 11,80 m x 8,20 m, a choir was grown with a length of 7.70 m. Carved stones of the altar of the chapel Climb Acher can be seen in the museum Westerkamp in White Castle. Inside the chapel area also arises from the Climbronn, who was a major reason for the pilgrimages to this place because of him awarded healing powers in the Middle Ages.

In Climbach was the Maginot line, traces of which now and then met yet.

Traffic

Climbach is at the intersection of several roads department and is among other things on the way from White Castle after Lembach.
