Walbourg

Walbourg ( German Walburg ) is a commune with 804 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district of Wissembourg and Canton Wœrth.

History

The town developed around the Benedictine Abbey of St. Walburg in which Frederick II, Duke of Swabia († April 1147 ), and the heart of his wife Judith of Bavaria ( † probably 1130/31 ), the parents of the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa buried, were.
