Siegen (Bas-Rhin)

Siegen is a commune with 516 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district of Wissembourg, in the canton of Seltz and the Association of Municipalities of La Plaine de la Sauer et du Seltzbach. Residents Siegenois call themselves. It is also called the wolves in the Alsatian dialect " the Siegemer Wölf ".

Geography

The community of Siegen is located about ten kilometers southwest of Lauterbourg and five kilometers south of the Lauter, which marks the border to Rhineland- Palatinate.

To the municipality of the district of Siegen Kaidenbourg belongs to the southwest, bordering Trimbach.

History

An early mention of the village dates from the 10th century. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Évènques Speyer. 1789 Siegen belonged to the canton Lauterbourg, from 1802 to the canton Seltz.
