Cocoa Beach is a city in Brevard County in the U.S. state of Florida with 11,231 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Cocoa Beach is located between the Indian River ( a part of the Intracoastal Waterway ) and Atlantic Ocean on the east coast of Florida. The town is located about 40 km south of Titusville and about 90 km southeast of Orlando.

Religions

In Cocoa Beach, there are 14 different churches from eight different denominations. Among the belonging to a denomination churches, the Catholic Church is most strongly represented at two churches. There are 4 to no denomination belonging churches ( as of 2004).

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 11,231 inhabitants distributed to 8,866 households. The population density was 884.3 inh. / Km ². 95.6 % of the population were white, 0.8 % African American, 0.4% Native American and 1.5% Asian Americans. 0.5 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.2% in different ethnic groups. 3.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 46.2 % of all households lived in 13.6 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 51.8 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.88 persons and the average family size is 2.47 people.

12.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 13.1% were 20-39 years old, 31.9% were 40-59 years old and 42.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 56 years. 50.0 % of the population were male and 50.0 % female.

The average annual income was $ 53,951, while 8.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.58 % of the population spoke Spanish 2.92% and 4.50% had a different mother tongue.

Cocoa Beach is traversed by the Florida State Roads A1A and 520. The nearest airport is Melbourne International Airport ( around 30 km).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 499 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the high range. There were eight rapes, 14 robberies, 73 injuries, 81 burglaries, 786 thefts, 23 auto thefts and two arsons.
