Port St. John is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Brevard County in the U.S. state of Florida with 12,267 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Port St. John is located on the Indian River near the east coast of Florida, approximately 5 km south of Titusville and about 60 kilometers east of Orlando. The CDP is crossed by U.S. Highway 1 (SR 5).

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 12,267 inhabitants distributed to 5,183 households. The population density was 1239.1 inh. / Km ². 89.5 % of the population were white, 5.5% African American, 0.5% Native American and 1.0 % Asian Americans. 1.2% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.3% in different ethnic groups. 6.0% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 23.5 % of all households lived in 34.2 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 73.1 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.61 persons and the average family size is 2.97 people.

25.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.7 % were 20-39 years old, 33.8 % were 40-59 years old and 18.0 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 41 years. 49.8 % of the population were male and 50.2 % female.

The average annual income was $ 56,188, while 13.0 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 96.99 % of the population spoke Spanish 2.09% and 0.92 % had a different mother tongue.
