Cocoa West is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Brevard County in the U.S. state of Florida with 5,925 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Cocoa West is bordered by the cities of Cocoa and Rockledge. The CDP is located around 25 kilometers south of Titusville and about 70 kilometers east of Orlando. The place is 501 and 520 crosses or touches of Interstate 95 and the Florida State Roads.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 5,925 inhabitants distributed to 2,553 households. The population density was 533.8 inh. / Km ². 47.7 % of the population were white, 41.3 % African American, 0.6 % Native American and 0.5 % Asian Americans. 6.1% were members of other ethnic groups and 3.8% in different ethnic groups. 10.3% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 26.0 % of all households lived in 36.2 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 65.2% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.68 persons and the average family size is 3.18 people.

29.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.5% were 20-39 years old, 27.0% were 40-59 years old and 17.3 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 35 years. 48.1 % of the population were male and 51.9 % female.

The average annual income was $ 22,913, while 30.2 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 98.18 % of the population spoke Spanish 1.07% and 0.76 % had a different mother tongue.
