Satellite Beach is a city in Brevard County in the U.S. state of Florida with 10,109 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

The city is located between the Banana River to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east on the east coast of Florida. In the south the city borders on Indian Harbour Beach Satellite Beach. The town is located about 50 km south of Titusville and about 90 km southeast of Orlando.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 10,109 inhabitants distributed to 4,953 households. The population density was 1,330.1 inh. / Km ². 92.9 % of the population were white, 2.0% African American, 0.3% Native American and 1.8 % Asian Americans. 0.8 % were members of other ethnic groups and 2.2% in different ethnic groups. 5.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 33.7 % of all households lived in 28.2 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 68.4 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.36 persons and the average family size is 2.81 people.

22.8 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.8% were 20-39 years old, 31.1% were 40-59 years old and 27.2% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 46 years. 48.6 % of the population were male and 51.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 61,712, while 5.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 95.83 % of the population spoke Spanish 2.11% and 2.06 % had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

Satellite Beach is traversed by the Florida State Roads A1A and 513. The nearest airport is Melbourne International Airport ( around 10 km south-west ).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 186 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There was a murder, three rapes, five robberies, 32 injuries, 49 burglaries, 121 thefts and two car thefts.
