Elisha E. Meredith

Elisha Edward Meredith ( born December 26, 1848 Sumter County, Alabama, † July 29, 1900 in Manassas, Virginia ) was an American politician. Between 1891 and 1897 he represented the state of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Elisha Meredith attended Hampden - Sydney College in Virginia. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1869 and began to work in this occupation in Prince William County. He was district attorney 1876-1883. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. From 1883 to 1887, he was a member of the Senate of Virginia.

After the death of Mr William Henry Fitzhugh Lee Meredith was in the overdue election for the eighth seat of Virginia as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on 9 December 1891. After two re- elections he could remain until March 3, 1897 Congress. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Elisha Meredith practiced as a lawyer again. He died on July 29, 1900 in Manassas, where he was also buried.
