John W. Fishburne

John Wood Fishburne ( born March 8, 1868 Charlottesville, Virginia; † June 24, 1937 ) was an American politician. Between 1931 and 1933 he represented the state of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Fishburne was a cousin of Congressman Maury Maverick ( 1895-1954 ). He attended the Pantop 's Academy near Charlottesville and then studied at Washington and Lee University in Lexington. In the years 1886 and 1887 he was a teacher at Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Virginia and his 1890 was admitted to the bar he began in Charlottesville to work in this profession. He was also engaged in farming. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. From 1895 to 1897 he sat in the House of Representatives from Virginia. Between 1913 and 1930 he was a judge in the eighth judicial district of his state.

In the congressional elections of 1930, Fishburne was in the seventh election district of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Jacob A. Garber on March 4, 1931. Since he resigned in 1932 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1933. This was marked by the events of the Great Depression.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives John Fishburne practiced as a lawyer again. He died on June 24, 1937 near Charlottesville.
