John Pegram

John Pegram (* November 16, 1773 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia; † April 8, 1831 ) was an American politician. In the years 1818 and 1819 he represented the state of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Pegram was born on the estate Bonneville in Dinwiddie County. He attended the common schools, and then held several local offices. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic-Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1797 and 1801, and again from 1813 to 1815 he sat in the House of Representatives from Virginia. He was also a 1804-1808 member of the State Senate in years. During the British -American War of 1812 Pegram served as a major general in the state militia of Virginia.

After the death of Mr Peterson Goodwyn Pegram was at the due election for the 19th seat of Virginia as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on April 21, 1818. Until March 3, 1819, he was able to end the current parliamentary term. In April 1821 Pegram was appointed U.S. Marshal for Eastern Virginia.

The circumstances of his death are unknown. According to his biography at the Congress, he died on April 8, 1831, in a ship fire on the Ohio River; his body was never found. According to other sources, it was at the death toll on the Ohio for his son James. Thus John Pegram died on April 8, 1831 at his estate in Dinwiddie County and was buried at the local family plantation.
