John Robert Brown (Virginia politician)

John Robert Brown (* January 14, 1842 in Snow Creek, Franklin County, Virginia; † August 4th, 1927 in Martinsville, Virginia ) was an American politician. Between 1887 and 1889 he represented the state of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Brown attended private schools in his homeland. During the Civil War he served in the army of the Confederacy. He then worked from 1870 together with his father in Tababakgeschäft in Shady Grove. In 1882 he moved to Martinsville, where he was also active in the tobacco business. He also went into the banking industry and in politics. Since 1884 he was mayor of Martinsville.

In the congressional elections of 1886, Brown was a candidate of the Republican Party in the fifth electoral district of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of George Cabell on March 4, 1887. Until March 3, 1889, he was able to complete a term in Congress. In 1896 he applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress. He made ​​an unsuccessful appeal against the election results. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives John Brown again worked in the tobacco business. He died on 4 August 1927 in Martinsville.
