James Jones (Virginia)

James Jones (* December 11, 1772 in Nottoway County, Virginia, † April 25, 1848 ) was an American politician. Between 1819 and 1823 he represented the state of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Jones attended until 1791, the Hampden - Sydney College and then the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. After a subsequent study medicine at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and his medical license, he began in 1796 in his home in this profession work. He was also engaged in farming. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic-Republican Party launched a political career. From 1804 to 1809 Jones sat in the House of Virginia. After that, he was until 1812 a member of the Privy Council. During the British - American War of 1812 he was in charge of military hospitals and medical care. In 1818 he was again at the State Parliament.

In the congressional elections of 1818 Jones was in the 19th electoral district of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Pegram on March 4, 1819. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1823 two legislative sessions. In the years 1827 to 1829, Jones was again a member of the House of Representatives in Virginia. Otherwise, he worked in agriculture. He died on April 25, 1848 at his estate Mountain Hall in Nottoway County, where he was also buried.
