Sam Farr

Sam Farr ( born July 4, 1941 in San Francisco, California) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. Since 1993 he represents the 17th Congressional District of the State of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Life and career

Farr grew up in Carmel. In 1963 he graduated in Biology at Willamette University in Salem ( Oregon). He visited in 1964, the Monterey Institute of International Studies and until 1968 the Faculty of Law at Santa Clara University. He is fluent in Spanish. From 1964 to 1966 he worked for the Peace Corps in Colombia. It was 1975 by 1980 District (Supervisor) in Monterey County and from 1980 to 1993 deputy in the California State Assembly. Since 1993 he represents as the successor to Leon Panetta the 17th Congressional District of the State of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

He is a member of the following committees of the House of Representatives:

  • House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies
  • Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies

Politics

Farr regarded as an opponent of American involvement in Iraq and voted against the PATRIOT Act. In September 2008, he voted against the American -Indian agreement on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Family

Farr is married, has a daughter and a granddaughter.
