SM U 106 was a submarine of the Imperial Navy during the First World War. U 106 led by a company in the eastern North Atlantic. Here, a warship was sunk and a merchant ship damaged.

Use

U 106 was given on 5 May 1916 in order, expired on June 12, 1917 at the Germania shipyard in Kiel on stack and was put into service on 28 July 1917. As of early September 1917, the boat of the IV U- Flotilla in Emden and Borkum was assigned. First and only commander was Lieutenant Hans Hufnagel.

U 106 ran out of Emden on September 8, 1917. The intended route was to the Shetland Islands by in the North Channel of the Irish Sea. During this patrol, U 106 sank on 18 September 1917 British destroyer HMS Contest with 957 GRT and damaged the British cargo ship SS City of Lincoln ( 5867 BRT). At the demise of the contest, 35 people lost their lives. 60 survivors were picked up by the City of Lincoln.

Whereabouts

On October 7, 1917 106 two radio commands were issued to U, which were "not understood " each acknowledged. Content of the radio commands was a new meeting place, because at Terschelling a new British mine network had been discovered.
