SM U 37

SM U 37 was a diesel-electric submarine of the German Imperial Navy, which was used in the First World War.

Inserts

U 37 was launched on August 25, 1914 at the Germania shipyard in Kiel on stack and was put into service on December 9, 1914. The first and only commander of the submarine was Lieutenant Erich Wilke.

U 37 only led by an incomplete patrol, on the two merchant ships of the Entente with a total tonnage of 2811 GRT were sunk.

Whereabouts

On March 20, 1915 U ran to 37 during a patrol in the English Channel off. Since early April, the submarine has been missing. It is assumed that U 37 north of Zeebrugge or east of the Strait of Dover on the way back ran into a mine, with all 35 crew members were killed. The submarine could also be decreased by an accident due to technical faults or human error.
