SM U-31 (Germany)

SM U 31 was a diesel-electric submarine of the German Imperial Navy, which was used in the First World War.

U 31 was launched on January 7, 1914 at the Germania shipyard in Kiel on stack and entered service on 18 September 1914. The first and only commander of the submarine was Siegfried Wachendorff.

U 31 performed an incomplete patrol on which no sinkings were obtained.

Whereabouts

On January 13, 1915 U ran 31 to the operating area Hoofden -Smith Knoll off the southeast coast of England from. Since then, the boat is considered lost. It is assumed that U 31 hit a mine. But it could be decreased by a disaster due to technical faults or human error. All 31 crew members, including the commander Lieutenant Wachendorff died.
