Commissioning

U 123 was given on 27 May 1916 in order, expired on January 26, 1918 at Blohm & Voss in Hamburg from the stack and was put into service on July 20, 1918. The boat was assigned to the First U- Flotilla in Helgoland and Brunsbuttel. First and only commander was Oberleutnant zur See Karl Thouret.

U 123 led during the First World War by any company and therefore could sink or damage any ship.

Whereabouts

After the armistice, U 123 was delivered on 22 November 1918 the United Kingdom. The boat was partly in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight, where it was visited by numerous visitors. In the conversion to Abwrackplatz the boat ran aground in 1921 at the British east coast and was scrapped.
