Geography
Geographical Location
Wistedt located northwest of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Tostedt, which has its headquarters in the town of Tostedt.

History
The village was first mentioned in 1244.

Coat of arms
Blazon: Twice shared by green, silver and red top in green, a horizontal silver Torfspaten. In the middle in silver with a green Heidlee Heidharke crossed. Red of the shield base. From the bottom two mutually and again diverging wave beams in blue.
Culture and sights
Wistedt is geographically the watershed between the rivers Elbe and Weser represents the heather brooks Wümme ( the Weser ) and Oste ( the Elbe ) approach in the municipal area to about 300 m and then flow but in other directions. Wistedt has relative to the municipality one of the highest proportions of designated conservation areas of Lower Saxony: Kauers Wittmoor and Great Moor at Wistedt.
Honorary citizen of Wistedt are Walter Bostelmann and Grethe Matthies. Both have created an extensive chronicle Wistedts. In addition Bostelmann has four other treatises - some in Wister Platt - written on Wistedter citizens and their practices. His rock collections from the district are impressive.
