Training

After Ferrari so far with the exception of the Indianapolis 500 dominates every workout and Fangio had won the pole position at each of the four races, the training was for the Grand Prix of Great Britain 1956 balanced between the top teams Ferrari and Maserati. Fangio and Moss fought for the pole position and drove at the end of the same time of 1:41,0. However, as in previous years was the time measurement at Silverstone not at a level other racetracks and thus all the times were only accurate to the second. Since Moss his best time in training rather than aufstellte Fangio, he secured pole position. This was the only pole position of the Formula 1 season 1956 for Moss and Maserati.

Mike Hawthorn scored in the first full race weekend for Team BRM the third place, two seconds behind Fangio. Time- par to Fangio's teammate Collins qualified in fourth place ahead of the two Vanwall of Schell and Gonzalez.

However, a weak point of the car, the low reliability remained, Flockhart in third BRM already retired on the second lap of the race due to an engine failure from. In round four also Brabham retired with an engine failure. González, who at the Grand Prix of Great Britain 1956 participated for Vanwall, a few meters wide and was rolled at the start due to lack of power transmission, the first failure of the race.

At this time he was the eighth loss of the Grand Prix. Thus, Moss led the factory Maserati before Salvadori in a private Maserati. In third position was Fangio, who tried to catch two leaders. Behind him, the distance to Brooks became larger, which is also the unreliability of his BRM had to fight. A repair pit stop helped him to be able to continue the race, but on lap 41 he had a serious accident in which the car overturned several times. Brooks was thereby thrown from the car and suffered minor injuries. The car went up in flames and it took a long time to extinguish the resulting fire, causing the car was completely destroyed. For BRM ended the race with the failure of all three cars, but with the knowledge that the car is fast enough to keep up with the other top teams.

The two Ferrari drivers Fangio and Collins, this allowed to overtake Salvadori. Then sought Moss the box to let on to top up oil. He remained in the lead, its projection on Fangio consequently decreased significantly, however.

On lap 59 Salvadori finally left the race four laps later, Collins suffered a similar fate. He then took over on lap 70 the car of his teammates Portago, who took over on lap 80 in turn the car from Castel Lotti. Moss came again in the box, since the engine had lost power. There was a repair and Fangio took over on lap 69 the lead. Moss needed a third repair pit stop and then fell a few laps to go out due to a broken axle.

Fangio won for the first time in his career at Silverstone Ferrari and continued the winning streak continued on this route. This was the fifth of six consecutive victories at the Silverstone circuit for Ferrari. Fangio outsell while the entire field of riders, his teammate Collins drove to second place finish and completed another Ferrari one-two. He was the first Spaniard to have managed this and only at the Malaysian Grand Prix with Fernando Alonso 2003 was again a Spaniard on the podium. Moreover, these were the first points of his career for him. Collins lost through the points dividing a large part of its projection in the drivers' standings to Fangio. Fangio came within a point of Collins and overtook Behra, who came in third in this race.
