1996 Super Tourenwagen Cup season
The Super Tourenwagen Cup 1996 was the third season of this racing series.
Season overview
The 1996 season was dominated by the Italian Audi factory driver Emanuele Pirro, who won the most races this season. The British runner Steve Soper was the only other driver who drove for the title. But a poor start to the season with disabilities his title aspirations and Pirro was the penultimate race on the Avus early masters. Third was Laurent Aiello at Peugeot in the first STW- season Aiello and Peugeot. The Frenchman was able to win some races, but was too inconsistent to get in the championship over a third rank out. Fourth was surprisingly Christian Abt in a private Audi without factory support to three factory Audis.
