1997–98 English Premiership (rugby union)

The 1997/1998 season of the English Premier League was the eleventh season of the top flight of English rugby union championship. For sponsorship reasons it was called Allied Dunbar Premiership. It began on August 23, 1997, consisted of 22 game days (one forward and reverse turn) and lasted until May 17, 1998. Winning the league title for the first time the Newcastle Falcons. At the end of the season Bristol Rugby dismounted.

National Division One

The season of second division ( National Division One) comprised 22 game days, each with a forward and reverse turn. The two top-ranked teams, the Bedford Blues and the West Hartlepool RFC, went directly to the Premiership, while the third-placed London Scottish asserted itself in a play-off against Bristol Rugby. Since the league was expanded by two teams in the following year, there were no losers.
