1997–98 WCHL season
The 1997/98 season was the third regular season of the West Coast Hockey League. During the regular season, nine teams contested every 64 games. In the play-offs, the San Diego Gulls prevailed and won the third Taylor Cup in their history.
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Alaska Gold Kings were inactive.
- The Idaho Steelheads were added as an expansion team in the league.
- The Phoenix Mustangs were added as an expansion team in the league.
- The Tacoma Sabercats were added as an expansion team in the league.
- The Tucson Gila Monsters were added as an expansion team in the league.
- The Fresno Falcons changed their name to Fresno Fighting Falcons.
- The Reno Renegades changed their name to Reno Rage.
