2002 Six Nations Championship

Six Nations 2002 was the third edition of the annual rugby union Six Nations tournament. On five weekends between February 2 and April 7, 2002 15 games were held. Tournament winner was France, which managed with wins against all other teams the Grand Slam for the seventh time.

Six Nations is the only rugby union competition of meaning which does not exercise the usual reward points system. In this, the points are distributed as follows:

  • 4 points for a win
  • 2 points for a draw
  • 0 points for a loss (before possible bonus points )
  • 1 bonus point for four or more successful attempts, regardless of the Final
  • 1 bonus point for a loss by fewer than seven points difference

Opponents of this system complain that at Six Nations, the result would be distorted in any manner. If the bonus points system come with this host for use and had all the games ended with the same result, then England would have been winner of the tournament, despite the Grand Slams of France:
