2005 FIFA Club World Championship

The FIFA Club World Cup 2005 ( engl.: FIFA Club World Championship 2005 ) was after the failed attempt in 2001, after five years of interruption, the second edition of this international football competition for club teams and was held from 11 to 18 December in Japan.

The FIFA Executive Committee had decided the Club World Cup on March 8, 2002 2005, a year later, the world governing body upheld that decision. The Club World Cup is endowed with prize money totaling 15 million U.S. dollars. In addition, all costs for the teams and delegations of the confederations are covered by FIFA.

Tickets cost between 3,000 Japanese Yen ( about 21 € ) for a quarterfinal match Category 4 and 30,000 Japanese Yen ( about 209 € ) in the best category for the finals along with the third-place match.

Mode

Compared to the first edition of 2000, there were due to a reduction in the number of participants changes in host mode. The tournament was henceforth held each December in each year with the winners of the six continental champions competitions at club level from Asia, Africa, CONCACAF, South America, Europe and Oceania. As the venue for the first payouts Japan was chosen. The tournament was played in the knockout system. In eight days, seven games were held. The teams from Europe and South America were set for the semi-finals and played only two games each. The other four teams determined in two quarter-finals the other two participants for the semi-finals.

"adidas " Golden Ball

The "Golden Ball" for the best player of the tournament went to the Brazilian Rogério Ceni of Sao Paulo. The "Silver Ball " went to the Englishman Steven Gerrard from FC Liverpool and the " Bronze Ball" at the Costa Rican Cristian Bolanos from CD Saprissa.

FIFA Fair Play Trophy

The Fair Play Award for athletic proper appearance on and off the turf was Liverpool.
