The 2005 season is the ninth regular season of the Women's National Basketball Association ( WNBA).
The ninth WNBA Draft was held on 16 April 2005 at the NBA Entertainment Studios in Secaucus, New Jersey, United States instead.
The WNBA championship won for the first time, the Sacramento Monarchs, the Connecticut Sun defeated 3-1 in the final series. Monarchs center Yolanda Griffith was named Finals MVP.

As a first pick attracted the Charlotte Sting, the US-American Janel McCarville. Then chose Indiana in second place Tan White, followed by Sandora Irvin in third place, which was selected by the Phoenix Mercury. Overall, the 13 franchises secured the rights to 39 players. The lion's share with 38 players represented the United States.
