2008 Vuelta a España, Stage 1 to Stage 11#Stage 5

The fifth stage of the Vuelta a España 2008 on September 3 was a 42.5 km long individual time trial of Ciudad Real Ciudad Real ( ITT).

Launched as a 40 Manuel Quinziato presented first on a good target time that existed up to the time trial specialists should have. His leadership on the two split time measurement points he could even defend until all riders passed these points. The time Quinziatos in the target had on hand, to Levi Leipheimer 's turn. This had begun behaving, but in the end he had a head start on Quinziato of over half a minute. Of the other favorites for the overall victory no one could jeopardize Leipheimer. Only the French time trial champion Sylvain Chavanel came close to the Americans. Ultimately, he lacked twelve seconds. The German hopes of victory had rested on Sebastian Lang, Stefan Schumacher and Andreas Klöden. However, the latter could not place in the top ten and occupied at the end of the positions eleven and twelve. Long succeeded this as tenth, however scarce.
