2008 Vuelta a España, Stage 12 to Stage 21#Stage 16

The 16th stage of the Vuelta a España 2008 on September 16, led over 186.3 km from Ponferrada to Zamora. There are two intermediate sprints and a mountain stage of the first category were on the program.

Except for the increase in the first category this stage was classified as a flat stage. Since this was to drive at the beginning of the stage, the field was closed over the mountain and there was a slugfest in the battle for the mountain jersey. David Moncoutie fended off all attacks and won the only climb of the day. On the descent, a duo took off from the field, Jesus Rosendo and Walter Pedraza. They could be a maximum of 8:40 minutes to settle from the field and won both intermediate sprints. However, the sprinters' teams were responsible for the chase, so that the escape was hopeless. So it came to the expected mass sprint, Tom Boonen, Filippo Pozzato before, could decide for themselves.
