2009–10 UEFA Women's Champions League

The UEFA Women's Champions League 2009/10 was the ninth playout of the European Champion competition for women's football clubs and first under this new name. It replaced the previous UEFA Women 's Cup. 53 teams from 44 countries have played for the title. The competition began with the first matches of the qualifying round on 30 July 2009 and ended with the final on 20 May 2010 at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez in the Spanish town of Getafe. Last year's winner ( winner of the UEFA Women 's Cup ) was the FCR 2001 Duisburg. First winner of the redesigned competition was the German Champion 1 FFC Turbine Potsdam, the French club Olympique Lyon defeated in the final 7-6 on penalties.

Qualification

In qualifying 28 teams played seven places in the Round of 32 at the qualifying masters of the 20 weaker associations as well as the runner-up of the eight strongest associations participated. To determine the strongest and weakest associations determined by the UEFA five year ranking will be used. According to their coefficients, the teams were divided into four groups setting. The draw was made on 24 June 2009 by UEFA President Michel Platini in Nyon and returned the following groups:

The tournaments were held in the period from 30 July to 4 August 2009. The group winners qualified for the round of.

Group A

Tournament in Siauliai (Lithuania). The women of FC Bayern Munich in the improved 19:0 victory over the Georgian champion Norchi Dinamoeli the German record for the biggest win. Vanessa Bürki scored six, Catherine Würmseer five and Julia Simic four goals.

Group B

Tournament in Strumica (Macedonia).

Tournament in Brondby (Denmark).

Tournament in Krško (Slovenia).

Tournament in Linkoping ( Sweden).

Tournament in Limassol ( Cyprus).

Final rounds

Round of

In the Round of the national champion of the strongest associations as well as the title holder engage in the competition. The first legs took place on 7 October 2009 on September 30, the return games. The draw took place in Nyon on 14 August 2009. The seeded teams had home advantage in the return match.

Second round

The draw took place together with the draw of the sixteenth finals on August 14, 2009 in Nyon. The first legs took place on 11 November 2009 on the 4th, the return games.

On 15 January 2010 the team of Olympique Lyon was disqualified by UEFA because of the use of two unauthorized players inside. The return leg, which Lyon won 5-0, 3-0 was considered for Fortuna Hjørring. Thus, the Danes would be moved into the quarter-finals. Then Olympique Lyon appealed to the International Court of Sport, which was granted on 25 February 2010. According to the regulations of FIFA Lyon could have affected players Christine Nielsen and Isabell Herlovsen not commit and use. Lyon founded the complaint so that the FIFA regulations apply only to professionals, the French league but was an amateur league.

Quarterfinals

The draw took place in Nyon on 20 November 2009. The first legs were played the return legs on March 14th and 17th 2010 on the 10th,.

Semifinal

The semi-final was drawn together with the quarter-finals on 20 November 2009 in Nyon. The first legs took place on April 10 and 11, instead of the return match between Potsdam and Duisburg on April 18, 2010. The return match between Umeå and Lyon was postponed due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland and the associated disabilities in the European air traffic on 28 April, 20.00 clock CET.

Final

For the first time since 2002 the finale took place again in a game.
