Getafe
Getafe [ xetafe ] is a city in the metropolitan area of Madrid, about 14 kilometers south of central Madrid location. It has a population of 172 526 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013 ) and an area of 78.74 km2.
The city is a commercial and industrial center and serves many in Madrid workers to live. In the years of the building boom large new residential areas have emerged, the city is therefore connected to the Madrid Metro. In Getafe is also a basis of the Air Force. Also located in Getafe, a research division of the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the production and final assembly of the fuselage panels and the rear wing will be held there. The Airbus plant flights (including the A 380 ) are executed on the air base.
In the urban area, the Cerro de los Ángeles, which is the geographic center of the Iberian peninsula. Sights include the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de La Magdalena is one of the 16th century. In addition, located in Getafe, a part of the campus of the University Carlos III of Madrid.
In the center there is a fountain called Getafe Cibelina. The Cibelina fountain is a scaled-down replica of the famous Cibeles fountain at the intersection of the Paseo del Prado and Alcalá Street in the heart of Madrid.
The football club Getafe played since 2004 in the Primera División.
