29th Berlin International Film Festival

The Berlin International Film Festival 1979 began on February 20, 1979 and ended on March 3, 1979. During this festival it came to a head when the delegations of the socialist countries in protest against the performance of their opinion, the Vietnamese people insulting film The by the go to hell by Michael Cimino their films and participants of the festival withdrew. The Deer Hunter was screened in competition outside of the competition.

Jörn Donner was the jury president this year. She stood in front of the following judges: George Alexander ( Germany ), Paul Bartel (USA), Liliana Cavani (Italy ), Ingrid Caven ( Germany ), Julie Christie ( UK), Pal Gabor (Hungary ) and Romain Gary (France).
