Air & Style is one of the biggest freestyle snowboard festivals in Europe. It is held annually since 1993 in December and is considered the first competition, which has placed its focus on the so-called straight jump. Inventor and organizer of the event is Andrew Hourmont with the company Air & Style Company (legally: Agency for Sport Music Lifestyle GmbH ) in Innsbruck, Austria, which is since 2014 a majority-owned by two-time Air & Style winner Shaun White.

Snowboard Contest

History

Formation

1993 Andrew worked Hourmont more than snowboard photographer and animated as part of a film project several professional driver to take part in a small contest in Innsbruck Bergisel Stadium. With scarce sponsor funds and hope for a couple of snowboarders (500 expected) was the first Air & Style contest held on 17 January 1994 and exceeded with about 5000 paying visitors all expectations of the organizers. In the history of freestyle snowboarding the Air & Style Contest is considered the first of its kind, in which the straight jump was in the foreground. Development

In the same year (1994 ) organized Andrew Hourmont after massive increase in the budget the second Air & Style Contest on 19 December 1994, it has already been recorded by MTV or followed by Snowboarder Magazine and sponsored. The prize money was doubled to 20,000 U.S. dollars as well as the number of visitors (10,000 ). Ingemar Backman won the competition and this year also the first after-show party was held in Innsbruck.

In 1995, the Air & Style Contest began to boom. Moving to Seefeld

Late in the evening of December 4, 1999 five people died on her injuries as a result of Massendrängelei. On the Air & Style website is called 45,000 visitors and more. On December 9, 2000 was held in the Casino Seefeld Arena 8th Air & Style Contest. The then 16 -year-old Shaun White was the 10th Air & Style Contest for the first time sit up and took 2nd place behind David Benedek.

2003 and 2004 won the snowboard prodigy, Shaun White, who showed extraordinary demonstrations of his skills. Moving to Munich

Extension

In 2010, Air & Style Company confirmed a straight jump competition in Beijing, which will be held on December 4th and will be presented among others by Shaun White. Political

Until the dissolution of 2002, the points won the driver were incorporated into the ISF rating, since the founding of the TTR World Snowboard Tour shortly after the points are counted in that official Snowboard World Ranking. Because of an early exit of the main sponsor in the summer of 2008, the Straight Jump event in Munich could not be financed in the same year and therefore had to be canceled. In the spring of 2009, Air & Style Company announced that the event will be announced as a series and will be held in Innsbruck, Munich and Moscow. Instead Moscow but then 2010 Beijing was confirmed in the summer and also played in the same year.

On January 13, 2014 it was announced that the snowboard professional and two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White is the new majority owner of Air & Style Company. Founder Andrew Hourmont remains Europe 's managing director. White was the contest in 2003 and 2004 to decide for themselves.

Skateboard Contest

History

Between 1999 and 2001 competitions were held in skateboarding, were present at the likes of Tony Hawk, Andy MacDonald, Sandro Dias and Sergie Ventura.

The original plan was to establish the Air & Style Skate Contest to a similar size in the skateboard area, as it has done in snowboard area its big brother. Due to various factors, this project had to be shelved for the time being.
