Ak Bars Kazan (Russian Ак Барс Казань ) is established in 1956 under the name Maschstroi Kazan Russian Hockey Club of the city of Kazan. He plays in the Kontinental Hockey League. The club colors are green, red and white.

History

Today's club name and logo, who were elected in 1995, are derived from the official symbol of the Republic of Tatarstan, which can be referred to as White Leopard or Snow Leopard. This symbol has its origin in one of the Tatar tribes.

In 2004/05 season, played due to the lockout in the NHL, eleven NHL player for the club, including the Russian Ilya Kovalchuk and the Canadians Vincent Lecavalier. The hope, as to be reinforced Russian champion in the 1000 anniversary of the city of Kazan, was not met. But a year later, Ak Bars Kazan was able to prevail for the championship against Avangard Omsk HK in the final. In addition to the league title in 2006, the team in 1998 could also be champion. In addition, in 2000, 2002 and 2007 succeeded in winning the runner-up title and in 1976 and 1989, winning the title in the Perwaja League, the second division of the Soviet Union.

In the season 2006/ 07 Kazan led the league with 35 wins and 214 goals in 54 games, but lost the playoff final against Metallurg Magnitogorsk. In January 2007, the Ak Bars won the IIHF European Champions Cup. During the following season Kazan won the IIHF Continental Cup.

In recent years, Ak Bars was led by the SSM forward line consisting of players Sergei Zinoviev, Danis and Alexei Morozov Saripow. This attack is one of the league series of the dominant attack formations and their members are often among the most productive players in the KHL. Led by the trio won Ak Bars 2009 and 2010, the championship trophy of the KHL, the Gagarin Cup.
