Alessio Ascalesi

Alessio Cardinal Ascalesi CPPS ( born October 22, 1872 in Casal Nuovo di Napoli, Naples Province, Italy, † May 11, 1952 in Naples) was Archbishop of Sant'Agata de ' Goti, Benevento and Naples.

Life

Alessio Ascalesi studied at the Seminary of Spoleto trays Catholic theology and philosophy, joined the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, and received on 8 June 1895, the sacrament of Holy Orders. From 1895 to 1909 he worked as a chaplain in Spoleto and Monte Murano. He also took on leadership roles in the St. Bartholomew's College in Montefalco.

In 1909, he received episcopal consecration by Cardinal Domenico Serafini, OSB and Bishop of Muro Lucano was. From 1911 to 1915 he was Bishop of Sant'Agata de ' Goti and from December 9, 1915 Archbishop of Benevento. In 1916 Alessio Ascalesi was taken as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Callisto in the College of Cardinals. He participated in the conclaves in the years 1922 and 1939. 1924 Pope Pius XI appointed him. as Metropolitan of Naples. In 1944 he was serving as the senior Cardinal Priest Cardinal Proto priest. Cardinal Ascalesi died on 11 May 1952, took place in the Basilica of the Mother of Good Counsel Capodimonte to his final resting place.
