Alexey Volkov (biathlete)

Alexei Volkov Anatoljevich (Russian Алексей Анатольевич Волков; born April 5, 1988 in Raduschny ) is a Russian biathlete.

Alexei Volkov began his international career at the Junior World Championships 2009 in Canmore. In the sprint, he reached the 26th place, in the pursuit race he moved up to 12th place. Both in individual behind Manuel Müller as well as with the Russian squadron behind the German Embassy, he won the silver medals. Even more successful Volkov was at the Junior European Championships of the year in Ufa in individual and in the sprint he reached the fifth rank in the pursuit race he won Tarjei Bø and Simon Schempp behind the bronze medal. With the season he won gold.

In preparing for the 2009/10 season Volkov was appointed to the Russian A-team, which included preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics only eight biathletes. Also in the first Biathlon World Cup of the season in Ostersund he belonged to the squad and made his debut in the Sprint race, which he finished as 74th. Then Volkov initially joined only in the IBU Cup and showed there fluctuating performances. In Obertilliach he arrived in 2009 as a Fifth -placed a tracking a first digit result. In 2010 he was able to win in Nove Mesto na Moravě with a single his first IBU Cup races. At the first World Cup after the 2010 Winter Olympics Alexei Volkov finished third in the sprint the 9th Place and celebrated alongside his first top ten placement also winning the first World Cup points of his career.
