Åmål Municipality

Amal is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Dalsland. It is located on the western shore of Lake Vänern and has an area of 481 km ² and 12,625 inhabitants. Capital is the city of Åmål.

Geography

The community Amal extends about 40 km along the western shore of Lake Vänern. In front of the shores are numerous smaller islets. The hinterland is rich in lakes. To the west of the church is a system moves from long, but narrow lakes ( Edslan, Knarrbysjön, Ärr and Ånimmen ) from north to south through the entire municipality.

History

Prior to the merger of Älvsborgs County, Skaraborgs Göteborgs och Bohus Lan and Lan to Västra Götaland County Amal belonged to the province Älvsborgs longer.
