Skara Municipality

Skara is a municipality (Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Västergötland. The main town of the municipality is Skara.

Geography

The municipality is located in Skara Västgöta - level and about 150 kilometers northeast of Gothenburg.

The eastern boundary of the parish is formed by the mountain Billingen ( about 15 kilometers from the main town of Skara ). North of Varnhem extends the Valle Valley (Valle Dalen ) along the Billingen, which was formed by the ice age, and a mosaic of cultivated fields, pastures, deciduous forests has, among other things. Parts are protected by the establishment of several wildlife sanctuaries. South of Varnhem is the Hornborgasjön, a bird sanctuary, where to stay several thousands of cranes in April of each year.

Economy

The community of Skara is an agricultural community with a higher than average share of agriculture in employment. Linked to this is the dominance of the food industry in the secondary sector. Tourism plays a certain role. The city of Skara, Varnhem, the Hornborga Lake, the harness racing track in Axevalla and the location right next to Skara Sommarland are attractions.

Attractions

In the city of Skara stands the Cathedral Skara.

At the foot of Bill Ingen Varnhem lies with the monastery ruins of a former Cistercian monastery dating from the 12th century and the Gothic monastery church that houses the tombs of a number of Swedish kings from the Middle Ages.
