Anderson Varejão

Anderson Varejao França ( born September 28, 1982 in Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo ) is a Brazilian professional basketball player who is active in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers since 2004 and its strengths on the defensive, including the rebound lie.

Already with 19 years Varejao was elected to the Brazilian first league most valuable player of the 2001/02 season, although he was already changed in January 2002 to FC Barcelona, with whom he reached the Euro League final in 2003. After another year, he joined the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers. In the Draft although he was selected by the Orlando Magic, however, been further transferred immediately. After two seasons with at least 16 minutes average game time Varejao 2006/ 07 became an important factor in the finals of the Cavaliers. He was then restricted free agent and could not reach an agreement at the salary negotiations with the Cavaliers initially. Only in December 2007 after the Charlotte Bobcats had submitted a tender, he signed another contract with Cleveland. In the 2009/10 season, he was elected to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. In January 2011, Varejao retired to a torn tendon in the foot, which indicates the end of the season meant to him. The following season was already terminated early for him when he was in February 2012, broke his right wrist. 2012/13 led the NBA with 14.4 rebounds Varejao per game, before he injured himself again on December 18. First, only a bruised knee is diagnosed, however, proved to be a plan of the quadriceps. During the following convalescence a clot was detected in the lung, so that Varejão precipitated again for the remainder of the season at it.

With the Brazilian national team Varejao participated in the World Championships in 2002, where he played with his older brother 10 years Sandro Varejao, 2006, 2010. At the 2006 World Cup, he added the Greek Nikolaos Zisis by an elbow check to a triple fracture of the zygomatic bone.
