Anneke van Giersbergen

Anneke van Giersbergen ( born March 8, 1973 in Sint- Michielsgestel, Netherlands) is a Dutch singer and guitarist. From 1994 to 2007 she was active as a singer of the Dutch progressive rock band The Gathering. After her exit, she devoted herself mainly her project Agua de Annique, 2012 followed by the first studio album purely under their own name.

Biography

At twelve, van Giersbergen sang in the choir of their school. A short time later, she took singing lessons and joined her first band. Before 1994, the band joined The Gathering, van Giersbergen went through several bands, including a speed-metal band called Seventh episode. In addition to The Gathering van Giersbergen still part of the duo Bad Breath who played a mix of blues, jazz, funk and folk.

Their musical roots lie in classical and jazz music. Her biggest musical influences include Prince, Ella Fitzgerald and Thom Yorke. In 2006 she was awarded the Devil Award from the Nationaal Pop Institute as best singer.

In June 2007, she announced plans to leave The Gathering in August and continue to work with his own band called Agua de Annique. This is beside her guitarist Joris Dirks, bassist Jacques de Haard and her husband Rob Snijders on drums. The first album, Air, was published on 26 October 2007. Guests singer Kristin Fjellseth occurs. Compared to the albums of The Gathering, it is much quieter and ballad- oriented. It was characterized as atmospheric guitar pop. 2009 Agua de Annique decided Anneke van Giersbergen strengthened to become the focus. According to the website was revised and published their new album Pure Air under their name. Guest appearances

Van Giersbergen joined several times as a guest singer in appearance. With the German band Farmer Boys took her on a cover of Depeche Mode song Never let me down again. In addition, the Dutch on the album Icon II ( Rubicon ) by John Wetton and Geoff Downes is heard and worked with the project Ayreon ( on the albums Into The Electric Castle (1998) and 01011001 (2008) ). Later she was heard on the Napalm Death album Smear Campaign. Also had van Giersbergen on the 2008 album Night Eternal by the Portuguese band Moonspell a guest appearance in the song Scorpion Flower.

They also can be heard on the live albums Black Symphony and An Acoustic Night At The Theatre Within Temptation in each song Somewhere in duet with Sharon den Adel. From May to September 2009 she took with Devin Townsend on the album Addicted, where they took over a large part of the song. Cooperation with Devin Townsend was continued with the album Epicloud (2012 ). The piece What Could Have Been on November Doom Aphotic album she lent her voice. Another duet with John Wetton can be heard on his album Raised in Captivity.

Private

Van Giersbergen is married to the former drummer Rob Snijders Kong. In February 2005, she brought forth a son.
