Anny Rüegg

Anny Rüegg, married Hard Meier (* 1912; † 1 May, 2011 Zurich ) was a Swiss ski racer. She was twice World Champion and celebrated several victories in major international races.

Career

Rüegg occupied in 1933 in Innsbruck at their first participation in a World Cup (then known as FIS races called ) each ranked 20th in the downhill and the combined and ranked 25th in the slalom. At the Arlberg - Kandahar race in Murren already reached the third place in the slalom and fifth in the combination in the same year. From next winter counted Rüegg with numerous wins and podium finishes in major international competitions for the best in the world. In 1934, she was at the Arlberg - Kandahar race in St. Anton am Arlberg second in the downhill, slalom and third in the order behind Jeanette Kessler Second in the combination. In Grindelwald reached in the SDS- race of the Swiss women's ski clubs, the Rüegg belonged, took first place in the downhill and combined and ranked second in the slalom. The biggest success of the winter she succeeded at the World Championships 1934 in St. Moritz, when she won the downhill on the two Germans Christl Cranz and Lisa Resch and with space 18 also was third in the combination behind Cranz and Resch in the slalom.

A second world title won Rüegg next year at the World Championships 1935 in Mürren: She pushed with clear fastest time in the second pass, the half time Christl Cranz Leading to second place and was World Champion in slalom. She was also third in the downhill and thus behind Cranz Second in the combination. You also get at the Arlberg - Kandahar - and SDS- race 1935 again Achievements: In the SDS- race in Grindelwald, she was first in the slalom and each second in downhill and combined and the AK- race in Murren she won downhill, slalom and combination. In all three disciplines Rüegg also won the Grand Prix of Megève and at the Austrian Championships, which she was Austrian Champion 1935. They also won this year's Parsenn Derby and set the fastest time in the slalom the Swiss Championships, for which then a trophy, but still not an official championship was awarded.

In the winter of 1936 Rüegg once again took victory in the slalom and second place in the downhill, so this time she chose the combination of SDS at the races. Thanks to their excellent achievements counted Rüegg at the Olympic Winter Games in 1936 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen to the medal contenders. However, in Garmisch she fell on February 4, three days before the start of the Alpine race in the last training ride of the day difficult. She crashed into a tree and pulled injuries in his left knee, which eventually meant her career end. After 1936, Rüegg took only at a few competitions in part, about the Swiss Championships 1942. She was married to the Zurich Hard Willy Meier, who was also a skier and reached several top placings at Swiss Championships.
