Arditti Quartet

The Arditti Quartet is one of the leading string quartet ensembles, with emphasis on the interpretation of compositions from the 20th century and the present. Since its founding in 1974 by violinist Irvine Arditti several hundred string quartets have been devoted to him. Composers such as Thomas Adès, Louis Andriessen, Georges Aperghis, Harrison Birtwistle, Benjamin Britten, John Cage, Elliott Carter, Edison Vasilievich Denisov, James Dillon, Hugues Dufourt, Pascal Dusapin, Ivan Fedele, Brian Ferneyhough, Luca Francesconi, Gubaidulina, Francisco have Guerrero, Jonathan Harvey, Toshio Hosokawa, Mauricio Kagel, Davorin Kempf, György Kurtág, Helmut Lachenmann, György Ligeti, Bruno Maderna, Philippe Manoury, Conlon Nancarrow, Roger Reynolds, Wolfgang Rihm, Giacinto Scelsi, Salvatore Sciarrino, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis entrusted with the premiere of their works, of which many have become established in the repertoire of contemporary music.

The Arditti Quartet strives for the interpretation of contemporary music always close collaboration with the composer. In the educational area its members were long resident string tutors at the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music and since then gave numerous master classes and workshops for young performers and composers in the world.

The Arditti Quartet's extensive discography of over 180 CDs. Series on the French label Naïve Montaigne 42 recordings have been released that portray many contemporary composers and present complete string quartets of the Second Viennese School for the first time. Many works have been recorded in the presence of the composer, such as the complete string quartets of Luciano Berio. Even legendary episodes of recent musical history as the recording of Stockhausen's spectacular " Helicopter Quartet " were immortalized by the Ensemble on CD. Among the recent publications on Aeon include Birtwistle, Dusapin, Gerhard and Harvey.

The Arditti Quartet has over the last 25 years, won numerous awards, including several times the German Record Prize. For the recording of works Elliot Carter (1999) and Harrison Birtwistle (2002), it has twice won the Gramophone Award for "Best recording of contemporary music." The Ernst von Siemens Music Prize was forgiven for his "musical masterpiece" 1999. In 2004, Charles Cros him the Académie awarded the "Coup de Coeur " for his "contribution to the dissemination of music of our time ."
