Army Group C

Army Group C was a major unit of the Army of the Wehrmacht during the Second World War. She was supreme command each changing armies as well as many special forces.

Career

Army Group C was set up on 26 August 1939 the commander of Army Group 2 in Frankfurt out. Initially led the Army Group C, all troops of the Western Front, but after the end of the Polish campaign the supreme command of the southern part of the western front was limited. The Army Group C has been achieved, the frontal breakthrough of the Maginot Line in June 1940. Upon completion of the western campaign, Army Group was first in the home and on April 20, 1941, the codename "section rod Prussia " moved to East Prussia. On June 21, 1941, she was renamed Army Group North.

It was reorganized on November 26, 1943 spin-off from the Staff of Commander South ( Air Force ) and was also the commander- southwest. It was used in Italy.

On 29 April 1945, the part surrender of German forces in Italy was signed; this is only on May 2, generally known ( it may come in force).

On April 29, signed at Caserta two officers ( Lieutenant Colonel Hans Lothar von Schweinitz and SS -Sturmbannführer Eugen Wenner ) the surrender to the British Field Marshal Harold R. Alexander ( 1891-1969 ), the commander of the Allied forces in the Mediterranean. They were commissioned by General Heinrich von Vietinghoff - Scheel (1887-1952) and Karl Wolff (1900-1984), Supreme SS and Police Leader in Italy, SS -Obergruppenführer and General of the Waffen-SS.
